We just got off our 16 Day Moroccan Passage Cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to Southampton, England. To see all the photos and reports from that cruise, CLICK HERE
The Aldgate East London Underground Station is just 322 feet, a 2 minute walk, from our hotel. We took the "Hammersmith & City" line to the Liverpool Street station, and then the "Central Line" to the Oxford Circus Underground Station. From there it was just a 0.2 mile walk, about 4 minutes, to the "Ain't Nothing But Blues Bar".
Taking the London Underground, or "Tube", still seems to be the fastest and most convenient way to get around London. The traffic is so bad in London that it can sometimes take an hour just to go 2 or 3 miles across town in a taxi or Uber. Except during the Rush Hours, the Tube was much less crowded than prior times we visited London. Most likely because of so many people working from home. Sometimes we had a subway car all to ourselves.
There were signs everywhere and P.A. announcements that said that masks must be worn while riding the Underground. However, we only saw about 10% of the people in London wearing masks, even while riding the Underground. I don't know what the Uber policy is in London, but they didn't seem to care if you wore a mask and the drivers often weren't wearing masks. Most pubs were quite crowded, sometimes shoulder to shoulder, with rarely anyone wearing a mask. I think social distancing and mask wearing is over for the London crowd.
We still had funds left on several London Underground "Oyster" cards that we brought with us from our prior trips to London over 2 years ago. Some of the Oyster Cards were from tour packages that included some free travel on the London Underground.
