Perfecting Pubs Since 1873. William Nicholson, our founder, opened his first pub in 1873. Today we're proud to continue his legacy. Inside each iconic pub you'll find warm hospitality and the most exquisite gins, whiskies, cask ales and fine wines. Nicholson knew a thing or two about gin palaces. He founded the family gin distillery and picked only the finest pubs to serve it in. With over 140 years of botanical heritage, we keep his tradition alive with our selections of gins.
Starting at the Haymarket Tram Station we road the Edinburgh Trams all the way to one end of the line (Edinburgh Airport) and then to the other end of the line (York Place) and then back to the Haymarket Tram Station. The below photos were taken during that ride. I think I managed to take a photo of every tram stop on the line.

The Ryrie's Story: Ryrie's - a "wee" gem... not "yer" typical train station "boozer!" Ryries is a little-changed Edwardian public house which occupies a very prominent position at the junction of Dalry Road, Haymarket Terrace and Morrison Street, making an important contribution to the townscape. The bar has good Baronial details and a Scottish Renaissance style wooden pub front. The interior has some attractive leaded and stained glass with lettering and a finely detailed carved gantry behind the bar. Kirkwood's map of 1817 shows the earlier building on this site as the Haymarket weigh house. At some point before 1852 (possibly in 1842 at the same time as Haymarket Station was opened) the corner building had become an inn. Ryrie's has witnessed times past from trams coming and going and coming again! The erection of the Hearts memorial in memory of the former players of local Edinburgh team Heart of Midlothian FC, who lost their lives serving their country during World Wars I and II. And many more tales from the depths of the forgotten... Ryrie's is a Historic Scotland listed building. With a full function room available we offer an area for a range of functions and events to be held in. We are a community local as well as catering for those on the go!
